Welcome to Hanoi! If you’ve found your way to the Temple of Literature (Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam), you’re standing at the heart of Vietnam’s scholarly soul. But once you’ve finished admiring the stone tortoises and ancient courtyards, what’s next?

This handnote is designed to help you navigate the neighborhood like a local-blending 1,000 years of history with the modern, edgy pulse of Hanoi.

Exploring Van Mieu: The First University

Before we dive into the “hidden gems,” make sure you’ve covered the basics. Built in 1070, this is where the elite scholars of the Ly and Tran dynasties studied.

Pro Tip: Look for the Khue Van Cac (the Pavilion of the Constellation of Literature). It’s the symbol of Hanoi!
Dress Code: While it’s a tourist spot, it’s still a temple. Keep your shoulders and knees covered to show respect.

The Caffeine Fix: Egg Coffee and Beyond

Just a 5-minute walk from the temple gates, you’ll find some of Hanoi’s best cafes.

Traditional: Head to the nearby alleys for a classic Egg Coffee (Ca Phe Trung).
Modern Vibes: The area surrounding Nguyen Thai Hoc street is packed with “Concept Cafes” where you can sit by the window and watch the chaotic beauty of Hanoi traffic.

DNA Tattoo Studio: Bring Home a Permanent Souvenir

After soaking in the traditional art and calligraphy at Van Mieu, why not get some art of your own? If you’re looking to commemorate your trip with more than just a keychain, DNA Tattoo Studio is the destination in Hanoi.

Located conveniently near the city center, DNA Tattoo Studio is renowned for:

Top-tier Hygiene: International safety standards in the heart of Hanoi.
Custom Designs: Whether it’s a tiny lotus flower or a complex geometric piece inspired by Vietnamese patterns, their artists are masters of detail.
English-Speaking Artists: No “lost in translation” moments here-just great art and even better vibes.

Why DNA? Getting a tattoo in a foreign city is a rite of passage. At DNA Tattoo Studio, they specialize in turning your travel stories into skin art that lasts a lifetime.

Lunch Break: Bun Cha or Pho?

You’re in the North, so you have to eat like a Hanoian.

Bun Cha: Follow the scent of grilled pork to any small stall with plastic stools.
Pho: Look for the shops with the longest lines-that’s usually where the magic (and the best broth) is.
